HONE Commercial Solar Thermal Central Heating.

“The project owners wanted to use free daylight energy to fuel the heating system, they wanted an excellent example of sustainability which they have delivered using HONE as the Centre piece of their heating system”.

This case study involves a brand new industrial building in Ballycoolin constructed 2018-2019. The choice was not to use a heat pump option but a free daylight fueled HONE Solar Thermal System, the next generation of Solar Thermal Nanotechnology. Buildings typically require 75% to 80% of their energy to be heat related.

This latest generation of HONE Solar Thermal technology is transformational for any building requiring free renewable central heating and/or hot water production.

The technology chosen was the HONE 501 Generation 5 thermal collector which has the world’s highest kWh per sqm output rating. (We are now delivering Generation 6 HONE technology which is even higher)

The system is mounted on the roof using a HONE aluminum A Frame system with zero roof penetration required.

The HONE System is only for central heating purposes in this project.

The plant room is very small as the system is simple to install and does not require a complex and elaborate plant room.

Even though this is an industrial building, the backup boiler on the right is a small 45KW gas boiler and the only additional backup to the system meaning this buildings energy imports and CO2 emission are miniscule in comparison to any other option.

Additional benefits, simple systems, low and simple maintenance and lower cost of installation with ongoing bills massively reduced as the fuel for the system is free daylight. (traditional solar thermal requires sunlight, HONE Nanotechnology uses daylight – see performance example below)

“These systems can be upgraded to run completely off-grid, with the HONE 501 Gen 6 Thermal/Electric panels which make free heating & electricity from the same panel, the world’s No. 1 certified renewable panel technology, with 7 times more kWh output per sqm than Solar PV panels.”

Heat delivery is via traditional equipment such as vertical wall mounted radiators and overhead fan coils.

All distribution is via traditional designs and zoning meaning traditional skills in high temperature heating still apply.

It is important buildings are comfortable, simple to operate and are delivering ESG and Net Zero or negative energy/CO2 outcomes for the future. HONE Nanotechnology solutions make that a reality, simply and easily.

HONE Thermal Electric renewable technology is uniquely certified for both renewable hot water and central heating due to its high performance. This places it at the pinnacle of performance, energy cost reduction and emission reduction.

The performance data screenshot above is from the 11th of December 2022, 76C production temperatures, hotter than an oil or gas boiler, in the middle of a snow and ice freeze and it shows the outstanding performance of HONE’s Nanotechnology in making free renewable heating even though its only 8 days from the shortest day of the year.
