This installation is a specially designed commercial district hot water system on the top of a large Tower Block. This upgrade is part of an upgrade program of the Dutch Government to bring buildings up to nZEB.

The project was originally a Solar PV project but failed to meet the EPC required. A HONE district system with MHRV and window upgrade was designed and this delivered the Governments strict EPC Requirement.

The HONE system is installed on 3 separate levels on top of the building roof. From the picture (Level 1), you can see the enormous height of this tower block. This is a 9 story tower block with 225 apartments and a ground floor of shops.

The system installed is a special HONE Commercial District Hot Water System. The original gas boiler now acts as a backup when needed. The HONE system is the core hot water system.

This project is part of a Government program to convert existing large scale tower blocks into the most efficient nZEB buildings possible. The EPC outcome is the deciding tool to determine what works and what doesn’t. It was on this basis HONE was chosen as the only solution to deliver the best EPC outcome.

This project was a retrofit and was straight forward using all the free roof space on the roof of the tower block.

This system is designed to do a significant input into the tower blocks district hot water system.
