Rarely do we see a detailed review of a solar installation to determine whether the expectations lived up to the design request. This private grid system, now 6 years old, operates without exporting, functioning at 100% consumption only. It was intended to supply 100% of the home’s annual electricity needs, including heavy EV charging requirements 24/7, operating as if still grid-connected.

Over these 6 years, the system has consumed 100,778 kWh roughly split evenly between EV charging and electricity usage. Not a single unit of electricity has been purchased from the grid since April 2018. The system has generated savings of €56,234 at current prices. Calculating with a 3% inflation rate for energy and money annually, the savings are projected to reach €92k by year 10, €217k by year 20, and €385k by year 30.

Moreover, the current electricity bill shows the home is owed €529 due to various government payments. The moral of the story? Get a solution designed for the desired outcome. There are substantial savings to be realized, especially when incorporating an EV into the mix, even more so in rural locations where charging requirements are typically higher than in urban settings.
